Who can use the Communication
Skills Centre?
All students undertaking study at Stranmillis University College
are invited to take advantage of the services and resources offered
by the Communication Skills Centre.
What happens during
an appointment?
During an appointment your peer tutor will work with you to build
on the knowledge that you have already learned and demonstrated
through your writing. We assess and build upon the strengths and
weaknesses of the work you present to the tutor and help you improve
various essential skills so that you can make your writing as effective
as possible.
What do I bring for an appointment?
To make the most of your appointment we would ask that you bring:
- The assignment or essay question.
- A printed, double-spaced copy of your paper, at any stage of your
writing.
- Questions for your tutor about your paper.
How often can I come to the Communication Skills Centre?
Only two appointments may be spent on the same assignment. However,
you may visit the Centre with different assignments.
What happens if I need to cancel an appointment?
Cancelling your appointment well in advance is important because
we need time to contact one of the other students who are on the
waiting list. Cancellations should be made at least 24 hours in
advance.
What other services does the Communication Skills Centre offer?
In addition to the peer tutoring services the centre are offering
seminars on a range of topics that will support our students and
their professional development. These will be advertised in the
‘Special Events’ section of our website.
