The project has also drawn attention to many issues regarding quality of provision and how this can be enhanced to result in better outcomes for children’s development. As well as this, issues regarding the identification of children with special educational needs have also arisen throughout the project. The DE, DHSS&PS and Social Steering Group funding for the project started in 1998 and ended at Christmas 2004, when the EPPNI children finished Key Stage One. However, follow up of the EPPNI children is currently ongoing. The findings from this project may inform parental choice of childcare provision for their children, change existing childcare policy and give guidance on good practice in early years settings. The EPPNI research team has produced a number of technical papers, with other publications in the pipeline. The published papers are available to download from the Technical Papers link on the menu. The EPPNI project is sister to a larger study underway in the UK, known as Effective Provision of Pre-School Education (EPPE).
